Professional Photos - Fall 2012

The weekend before Parker's birthday we had some professional photos taken.  We asked the same photographer who did her 6 month photos, Kristen Koppers.  We were lucky enough to have her referred to us and have been so happy with her work.  She is mom to three little boys, so she is great with Parker.

We went to Highland Park again, which is right near our neighborhood.  This time we went to the Sunken Garden.  It rained a bunch the day before so the ground was very wet but we had no rain that Saturday morning.

Here are some of our favorites.

Daycare

We are lucky enough to have two wonderful for teachers for Parker in her Tiny Tots classroom, Lindsey & Emily.  One of the reasons I think they are wonderful is that they email us photos of Parker during the day.  Here are some from the last couple weeks.  Parker has two boys and a girl in her room and they will all be moving up to the next level in January.  We are glad she will get to stay with her buddies and know it will make the transition that much easier.

The next three are from yesterday, when Parker and her friends got into a box of kleenex while the teacher was changing a diaper...troublemakers!

Party!

We celebrated Parker's 1st birthday last weekend by throwing a party for family & friends.  My wonderful family flew in from St. Louis on Friday: Mom, Dad, Annie, Jack, & Charlie.  Greg's family drove in from Pittsburgh on Saturday:  Gennie, Eric, Clare, & Cate.  The party consisted of 20 adults, 5 preschoolers, 5 toddlers, and 2 babies.  The weather was a bit dicey and it rained all night on Friday, but by Saturday afternoon the skies had cleared.  While it was still chilly, it was a pretty, brisk, fall day.

We had a taco bar with two different kinds of chicken, ground beef, & fish.  We had a cake made from an amazing bakery in our neighborhood and sugar cookies as favors.  The theme was the colors hot pink, torquoise, & orange with some polka dots sprinkled in.  Thank goodness my Mom and sister were in town because they were my event designers and did all of the decorating work, who knew a few balloons could have such an impact!

Even though this was a child's birthday party, we still had a full bar complete with margaritas and a honey crisp apple sangria.  It's the first time (and hopefully not last) where we had a bounce house in the yard and bar set up inside!

To top it all off, our friends Tim & Laura surprised us by making this video of the event.  Good thing we have creative, artistic friends because this is above and beyond what Greg and I could ever manage to do on our own.

On Sunday we went to Stokoe Farms and had all kinds of fun.

Parker - 1 Year Old

The big day finally arrived and we have ourselves a 1 year-old.  Parker's birthday was on a Wednesday so we started the celebrating by brining in some donut holes for her teachers & classmates to share.  The women working behind the counter actually sang Happy Birthday to Parker when we were paying!  Parker did not know what to think about that.  Here are some pictures of her at school that day.

That night we got take out and Papa G came over to have dinner with us.  Then Parker got to eat her first cupcake, delish!

Since our 11 month update, the biggest change has been the walking.  Parker is officially a walker and no longer crawls anywhere.  It makes her so happy to walk around; sometimes she will just walk in circles through our living room, dining room, etc.  Her speech is sounding more and more like real words.  She says Ma Ma, Da Da, and Uh Oh all the time.  She tries to say dog and sometimes Otie.  Parker loves to wave and now shows this skill off to strangers all the time.  She also knows how to blow kisses (complete with "Mwah" sound) and uses sign language for "more please" when eating her meals.  Here is a video demonstrating these skills with her cousins:

At Parker's 12 month check up, she weighed 22 lb 15 oz (75%) and was 31 inches long (90%).  She was right on target with all of the milestones they asked about.  Parker still loves to eat and has taken to standing next to her highchair when she is ready for a meal.  We started mixing whole milk in her formula half way through the month and by her birthday we were completely done with the formula.  In effort to curtail the constipation problem that has been nagging her for months, we don't give her too much milk; just a cup with her afternoon snack/after naptime and a cup before bedtime.  Parker does loves to drink water, so we let her drink that all day long.

Every day with this little girl just gets to be more and more fun.  She's a sweetheart, likes to give (open-mouth) kisses to us and her dolls and stuffed animals, but she also a fiesty one and will throw a mini-tantrum sometimes when told no.

Here are some other photos from the month, including first trip to the zoo and many pictures from her teachers at school.
