Johnsons Visit the Roc

Parker is a lucky girl and got to see her other cousins this past weekend, when Greg's sister Gennie, Eric, and their two girls Clare & Cate came up from Pittsburgh for the weekend.  They arrived Friday night and we all met over at Grandpa's house for dinner.

On Saturday, we headed down to Waterloo to visit old family friends, The Hausners.  They own a campground, kayak rental, and restaurant.  We had lunch and then Norbert took us down the canal to Seneca Lake in one of their boats.  It was a nice, relaxing little adventure that included a stop at a tiki bar before heading back.

On Sunday, we had the Goforth Family picnic, where 57 uncles, aunts, & cousins got together for some good food and good times.

On Sunday evening, we had some cousins from the other side of the family over for dinner.

Clare was so sweet with Parker and gave her tons of hugs and kisses.  As always, we had so much fun with the Johnsons and cannot wait to see them again.  Fortunately, that is only three weeks away when they return so the grown-ups can attend a Wilco concert!

Parker - 9 Months Old

Hard to believe that Parker is 3/4 of the way through her first year!  Her little personality shines through more and more every day.  She is now very mobile and loves to explore; she pulls up on everything and cruises around all the furniture.  Not only does this mean we have to keep a much closer eye on her, but it also introduces us to the wonderful world of bruises.  Parker obtained her first bruise on the cheek from an incident with the coffee table at my parents' house.

Her 9 month check-up went great.  She is 20.6 lbs (75%) and 28 inches (80%).  We were relieved that her weight is still in line with her height because she loves to eat so much.  Parker will eat whatever we put in front of her so it would be very easy to overfeed her.

Just over the past few days, it seems her "stranger danger" tendencies have lessened, so we'll see how that progresses.  Her top right tooth popped through a couple weeks ago and the top left one is just breaking through right now.  Another recent development has been the discovery of the barrette perpetually in her hair, she has learned to pull it out, so I need to devise a new plan to control the wayward hair.

Here are the monthly photos:

St. Louis Visit

Parker's school was closed for the entire week of June 25-29, so I took off the week of work (well kind of, did some work from home on Monday and Tuesday actually brought Parker into the office for a couple hours).  The rest of the week we traveled to St. Louis to see everyone!

Our flight on the way there was delayed and since I was going to miss my connecting flight at Dulles, they put us on a flight through Chicago instead.  Then we had a 4 hour layover.  Parker did wonderfully, we just walked around and around the terminal most of the time, with one stop at a wine bar for Mommy.

We had such a fun time in St. Louis with lots of quality time with Grandma & Grandpa, Aunt Annie and cousins Jack & Charlie.  On Thursday morning, we went to Faust Park and rode the carousel.

Thursday night was Girl's Night Out at Bricktops at Frontenac.  Amazingly, everyone was able to come so we had such a great time catching up.  Jennifer stopped by the house beforehand to see Parker and P instantly loved her and let her read a book.

Friday morning, we took the kids to Millenium Park and used their splash park.  Parker was a little unsure at first but was soon crawling all around.

That afternoon we headed over to the Francis household for a play date with 14 kids!!  It was a madhouse, but everyone had a blast.

On Saturday evening, my parents invited family & friends over for a visit.  We had almost 30 people and dined on a local favorite...Serra's Pizza.  By this point, Jack had become one of Parker's favorite people.  He liked to make her laugh and the pictures here show Jack playing "catch" with her.  We tried for a shot of all three cousins together but mine didn't turn out that great.

Our flights home presented even bigger problems and we were delayed at Dulles for 6.5 hours on Sunday.  Again, Parker was amazing, but we were both exhausted by the time we made it home.

Because I couldn't let her crawl around on the airport floor, this game was a nice diversion and expend a little energy.

Despite the record-breaking heat in St. Louis and the travel issues, we had such a great time with everyone.  It is so fun to see Jack and Charlie in person and to watch these cousins play together.  Parker warmed right up to Grandma & Grandpa and I think next time will be almost instantaneous!
